This sustainable design group BIONICS replaces the polyamide which was previously used with plant-based raw materials originating from 100% renewable sources. This innovative material is 25% less harmful to the environment and 100% free from crude oil. The environmentally friendly, patented production process enables 25% less water usage and 20% less CO2 emissions. The yarn is made from castor oil and does not come from crops used for food or animal feed. Planting this 100% renewable resource requires neither large amounts of water nor agricultural land that could be used for growing food. Castor oil is derived from the seeds of the castor bean plant, Ricinus communis.
